I know this if off topic but I'm looking into starting my own blog and was wondering what all is required to get set up? I'm assuming having a blog like yours would cost a pretty penny?

I'm not very web savvy so I'm not 100% positive.
Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Woah! I'm really digging the template/theme of this site. It's simple,
yet effective. A lot of times it's very hard to get that "perfect balance" between usability and visual appearance. I must say that you've done a amazing job with
this. In addition, the blog loads very fast for me on Opera.
Excellent Blog!

As a retired Navy Chaplain I agree totally with the essence of this story. Militant right-wing Christian Fundamentalism has run rampant in the military, and in the Congress with a planned intentional take over of these institutions by right wing evangelicals. Those of us who are mainline Christians, Jews, and Catholics never saw our responsibilities being to "evangelize" and proselytize others. We were respecters of the religious plurality in the country and in the military. Our jobs were to provide spiritual and ethical insights to the Command as called upon, and provide divine services according to the faith traditions of those "who chose" to attend when they are off duty. Our other job was to provide "civil or non-sectarian" prayers on public occasions, such as change of Commands, that was representative of the pluralism of the military. On no occasion from 1963-1993, did I ever pray "in Jesus' name" at any civil or public occasion. This would have been offensive to our Jewish personnel, or our other non-faith groups. The essence of such non-sectarian civil prayers was more in line with the earliest traditions of this country's founders, to honor a beneficent Diety who guided our ancestors to this great country and in Whom they continued to ask for Divine Guidance. One presumes that agnostics and/or atheists begrudgingly went along with these military traditions.

The separation of church and state presumes the Government does not force an "established denomination" upon the tax paying public since all such pay in the civilian world is by private offerings and giving. While the Government does pay Chaplain salaries from our taxes, we were always careful never to proselytize nor embarrass, nor denegrate those person's who chose not to hold beliefs regarding the existence of divinity. That was an entirely personal and private matter. The situation today is untenable and as the article suggests promotes a right wing Evangelical Christian Taliban which is against our national interests and formal military traditions
